Cyber Security Concentration

The MPA with a concentration in Cyber Security is a program that prepares students for one of the fastest growing fields. Students in this concentration take the regular MPA core curriculum, and then five additional courses.  We suggest (but it is not mandatory) that  you take the classes in the following order:

  • IST 647 Information Based Management (4)
  • IST 648 Information Networking Systems (4)
  • IST 610 Senior Systems Manager (4)
  • IST 511 Information Assurance and Security (4)
  • IST 646 Information Systems Planning, Strategy and Policy (4)

In this concentration you will learn the basics of policy management in the area of cybersecurity, as well as the skills and applications for securing information systems and assuring the integrity of an organization's operational information.

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is accredited as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency (NSA). The campus is now among only six universities in California that have this national distinction.

CSUSB's Cybersecurity coursework meets the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) standards for Information Systems Security Professionals (CNSS 4011) and Senior System Managers (CNSS 4012). CNSS certifications are awarded for a 5-year period.

CSUSB has been awarded the Scholarship for Service: Cybercorps program. This program can provide full tuition, lodging and stipends to eligible students. For more info visit the Cybersecurity website.

The National Defense University in Washington DC have created a partnership where DoD civilians can attend NDU at and then complete their MPA in Cybersecurity at CSUSB, at no cost.

The Cybersecurity Faculty have prepared a list of resources that interested students, who do NOT have a backgound in computers, may wish to review to prepare them for the cybersecucrity classes. is FREE to all students at CSUSB.

Cybersecurity faculty highly recommend that students consider taking the following two full courses if they have limited experience in the discipline.  These courses will prepare student for the Concentraiton Courses, as wll as help uncertain students decide if the Cybersecurity Concentraiton is for them. 
Network+ (about 32 hours)
